Pakistan Ministry
Dear Wake Up Family,
During the past five years, we have been blessed to provide financial support to print and distribute the Warning! and No More Delay books in the country of Pakistan. The Lord has placed a burden on the heart of Barbara Kerr to give the people of Pakistan a timely health, Sabbath worship, and end-time message. Here is her story:
Serving Pakistan
As I knelt in front of the couch with tears streaming down my face, I praised God for the rejection and persecution I was facing. Was this the meaning of the words sacrifice of praise? I tucked my Bible closer to me, and began asking God to give me a ministry work that was so big I would never be able to do it on my own. Into my mind I heard God speak the words, “Ask of Me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance and the ends of the earth for your possession.” I wiped my tears, and the sadness began to ebb away. All right Lord, show me the work You have for me to do. My only request is that it is in another country and the people will not understand Your Sabbath truth. I want to help people that truly need help.
I then negotiated a small portion of my grocery budget to dedicate to the new work God would give me to do. Looking back, I realize God must’ve been chuckling at that.
It didn’t take long before I had a request for urgent help from a young woman in Pakistan. That first request was to help a woman who desperately needed a C-section. In Pakistan, if you do not have money to pay for a medical procedure, you are not allowed in the hospital and you are not attended to. There is no mercy. If you have no money to pay, you simply receive no care. The request was double what I had told God I would spend in a month, and I felt my faith being stretched.
For the next year and a half, I ministered to the physical needs of the people in my path. I helped to purchase food multiple times, bought clothing and blankets and paid for minor surgeries. God was stretching me. Honestly, I felt exhausted by the never-ending needs of the people. I was beginning to wonder if I was making a difference as I prayed over the people of Pakistan.
In March 2015, I was invited to teach a class on how to use and make charcoal in an emergency for my local church. As I began praying over the class, God kept impressing me that the class would change the world. Every time I prayed, I got the same message. The day I showed up for the class I was excited, but when I looked out at the 12 people staring back at me, I remember smiling and thinking to myself, “Sure God…this is going to change the world!” At the very last minute, someone came in with a GoPro and a tripod. They mounted a camera and recorded the charcoal class.
After the class was put on the Internet, Brother Johnson—my main contact in Pakistan—watched it, and became very excited about the information! He insisted that we take the information from my handout and turn it into a published book.
I quickly set to work altering the handout to fit the needs of the Pakistani people. I added a section on how to purify their water using charcoal, something that has become an immense blessing to them.
As I contemplated having a book on charcoal, I remembered Dan Jarrard’s book, entitled Why I am a Sabbath Keeping Christian and wanted to include that in the charcoal book. With his permission, I added it.
Brother Anthony Gill translated and combined both the charcoal handout and the Sabbath book for me. At our first printing, the printer charged us $6.50 per booklet. We could only afford to print 300 copies. They were gone in a single hour!
We began receiving 25-30 phone calls daily requesting more books. I coached Brother Johnson on how to negotiate better printing prices. After going through three or four printers, we were finally able to get the price of the Sabbath charcoal book down to $.25 per copy. This took a year to accomplish. Through a series of miracles, we can now print Sabbath books for 22.5¢/each Warning! books for 26¢/each.
Brother Johnson’s family members helped him to distribute more than 5,000 Sabbath charcoal books between May and September that year. Each month I would ask Brother Johnson what he thought of the information that he was teaching others. Each time he changed the subject. We still did not have a single Sabbath-keeping Christian. Finally, in September, the Holy Spirit spoke to Brother Johnson’s heart as he stayed up and prayed an entire night asking God to teach him the truth.
As soon as he was truly convicted, an outpouring of the Holy Spirit began taking place like never before. In December, Brother Johnson gave presentations to six Sunday-keeping churches. Each congregation accepted the Sabbath truth and all of them became Sabbath keeping Christians in a single weekend.
I continue to watch in amazement at how the Pakistani people don’t need to hear a message three or four times to become convicted. Between September and December of 2015, we went from one to over 900 believers. We have no way of knowing in numbers what impact we have had to date. We do know it’s in the thousands.
With those humble beginnings, we now have 22 lay pastors, an administrator, his assistant, and a media person as well. After volunteering their time for several years, I began paying them a modest salary three years ago from my own income.
It’s important to understand that in Pakistan, Christians can be Christians, but you are not allowed to convert a Muslim to the Christian faith. If they convert and are discovered, violence can ensue.
Within six months of the first printing, we had Muslims knocking on our door saying, “Hey, we hear you Christians have a trick for cleaning your water. What is it?” We simply handed them one of our Charcoal-Sabbath books, and they went on their way. I watched God use the health message as our entering wedge everywhere we went.
The most effective tool has been in flooding the prisons—which are two-thirds Muslim—with the Sabbath and end-time message. We have placed about 150,000 books there. The prison wardens love our books because it calms the prisoners and they become friendly with each other.
In the past five years, we have translated and printed Steve Wohlberg‘s book The Mystery of Death, a flyer on using fresh vegetable juices for cancer, Crystal Earnhardt’s book Trials and Triumphs, and Larry Wilson’s books on the Temple, No More Delay, and just last year we printed Warning, Revelation is About to be Fulfilled. I cannot keep up with the Warning book requests! This end time message has taken Pakistan by storm and the people love it. Requests are coming from Afghanistan now too. Up until we printed Larry’s Warning book, our personal attacks had been mild or moderate. With its printing, the devil is angry, we desperately covet your prayers.
In February and November of 2019, I made two trips to Pakistan to present health classes and teach the people. The first trip I made by myself, staying with my Pakistani family. In November my husband Bill accompanied me and preached the end-time message. All the messages and classes were recorded, and some have aired on local TV.
Each year in early September, there is a Catholic event held in Miriamabad. This was our seventh year participating. This year the Catholic Church issued a huge call throughout the country to take part. Two million people attended the September 6-9, 2024, event. God blessed us with a large donation, and we were able to print and distribute 200,000 Sabbath-charcoal books and 200,000 Warning books. In past years, we have struggled to distribute 30-40,000 pieces of literature.
Simon, a prominent Catholic Priest, sought out Brother Johnson, finding him on day two of the event. Several years ago, we distributed several thousand Sabbath books in his Catholic village. The Priest became argumentative and told Brother Johnson that his beliefs were wrong. Brother Johnson, in holy boldness, repeatedly asked him to “Just read the two books.” The priest stayed up all night, reading the Sabbath book and part of the Warning book. The next day he found Brother Johnson, apologized to him, and told him that these books were filled with truth he did not know! He became so convicted that he could not continue to work as a priest. Over the next few weeks, he had to move out of the big home provided by the Catholic Church, give back their expensive car, and walk by faith without a salary. Since he is the priest over many villages, he will be preaching the Sabbath truth to his churches prior to leaving. Please keep this man in your prayers.
My prayer has always been that Pakistan would become known as a Sabbath-keeping Nation. It doesn’t bother me that it’s a big prayer, or even a seemingly impossible prayer, because nothing is too hard for God. My part is working diligently to spread the truth!
Serving the people of Pakistan has been my biggest challenge and greatest joy. I have made new friends and witnessed many miracles. I know there will be thousands upon thousands in the kingdom because of the work God has given our hands to do.
