Living a Live by Choosing Faith

Dear Wake Up Family:

Nearly twenty-five years ago, in July 1998, a small group of Bible students met in a classroom at scenic Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. They were attending a Wake Up “camp meeting” as Larry liked to call it. Four years earlier, planet Earth had reached a significant, relatively unknown, milestone when the Jubilee Calendar ended in 1994. Then, a few months later, comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 crashed into planet Jupiter, demonstrating that planetary impacts were possible and proving Revelation 8 described literal events. Individuals who had learned of the Jubilee Calendar and the seven trumpets had anticipated a global earthquake and believed the first four trumpets were imminent. However, 1994 passed and by the end of 1995, it was obvious the end of the Jubilee Calendar in 1994 did not mean the trumpets would begin immediately. As the months and years continued, it became quite clear that the Lord was holding back the four winds for a time only He knows.

Unfortunately, some people who were more concerned with dating end-time events than learning more about Revelation’s story chose to reject the rest of the story. Others were discouraged by the obvious delay of subsequent events. It was in this backdrop that Larry chose to present, perhaps, his most vital seminar at the Durango meeting. Although many years have passed since that meeting, Larry’s message is just as relevant today as it was the days he presented it. The bottom line is that studying the dates and timing of events are important, but if we do not live a life built on faith, all our head knowledge is inadequate. We must have a conviction built on faith in our heart and soul to completely fulfill God’s plans for us.

This is the way Larry understood faith. “Faith in God is a choice. We demonstrate our choices with each challenge that comes our way. When confronted with a test, those who live by faith grasp the promises and providences of God, and through His strength, they overcome their fear. When a person lives by faith, he transitions from rebellion and intellectual assent to having an attitude of humility toward God’s authority. This attitude is demonstrated by a willingness to go-be-do. When we choose to have this submissive attitude, living by faith begins and we become an heir of the righteousness necessary for salvation. Jesus gives His righteousness to everyone who lives by faith.”

The presentation Larry gave in July 1998 has changed lives throughout the years, including our own Rex Johnson, who would not be working with Wake Up today if his life had not been changed by the Righteousness By Faith video series. Rex believed this series was so important that he has transcribed the video series into the enclosed book. Through the efforts of many volunteers and financial supporters, we are sharing this book with you. Our hope is that this book will change your life the way it has for those who have watched this video series through the years.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)

We encourage you to order and share this book with your family, friends, and neighbors. While many books have already been written on this subject, Righteousness By Faith takes this compelling subject and helps us to understand how living by faith today connects to God’s ultimate plans for us during the end-times. Our prayer is that this book will reach and touch many more people through the written word.
